ChalkPrint Privacy Policy
The short version
ChalkPrint does not collect your data. Everything the app records — your climbs, sessions, health and location data — stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no servers run by the developer. If you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in your own private iCloud account, which the developer cannot access.
Who this policy covers
This policy applies to the ChalkPrint iOS app and its Apple Watch companion (together, “ChalkPrint”, “the app”). ChalkPrint is developed and published by Nicholas Kinloch (“I”, “the developer”).
What the app stores
ChalkPrint stores the information you create while using it, including:
- Climbing sessions — start and end times, duration, and the climbs recorded within them.
- Climb details — grades, route or problem names, attempts, outcomes, and any notes you add.
- Workout and health metrics collected during a session, such as heart rate and energy burned.
- Location recorded during an active session, if you grant location access.
- Motion and activity data from the device’s sensors, if you grant motion access.
- Your in-app settings and preferences.
All of this is stored in the app’s own database on your device. It is not transmitted to the developer and it is not shared with any third party.
Health data
With your permission, ChalkPrint reads workout and health information from Apple Health and writes climbing workouts back to it, so your sessions appear alongside the rest of your activity.
Health data is used solely to record and display your climbing sessions inside the app. It is never transmitted off your device by ChalkPrint, never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never disclosed to any third party, including data brokers. You can grant or revoke ChalkPrint’s Health permissions at any time in the Health app under Sharing → Apps, or in Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
Location data
If you grant location access, ChalkPrint uses your location only while a climbing session is active — including in the background while a session is running — so the session can be associated with where you climbed. Location is stored with your session on your device. It is not sent to the developer or anyone else, and it is not used for advertising or tracking. You can change or revoke location access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
Motion and fitness data
With your permission, ChalkPrint uses the device’s motion and fitness sensors to detect activity during a session and improve the accuracy of what it records. This data stays on your device and is used only for that purpose.
Apple Watch
The Apple Watch companion records sessions on your wrist and transfers them to your iPhone directly over Apple’s device-to-device connection. That transfer happens between your own devices and does not pass through any server operated by the developer.
iCloud
Where iCloud sync is enabled, your ChalkPrint data is stored in the private database of your own iCloud account, under your Apple ID, so it can sync between your devices. The developer has no access to that data, cannot read it, and receives no copy of it. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. You can manage or delete this data in Settings → [your name] → iCloud, or turn iCloud sync off entirely.
What ChalkPrint does not do
- No accounts, sign-ups, or logins.
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or usage tracking.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party SDKs that collect data.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No selling, renting, or sharing of your data — there is nothing to sell, because the developer never receives it.
Your data, your control
Because your data lives on your device, you control it directly:
- Delete individual climbs and sessions inside the app.
- Revoke Health, Location, or Motion permissions at any time in the Settings app.
- Delete the app to remove its on-device data.
- If iCloud sync is enabled, delete the app’s iCloud data in Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage.
There is no developer-held copy of your data, so there is nothing for the developer to export or erase on your behalf. If you have a question about your data, contact the developer using the address below.
Children
ChalkPrint is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. Because no data is collected by the developer, no personal information from children is received or stored.
Third parties
ChalkPrint has no third-party data-collecting components. The only third party involved is Apple, which provides the App Store, Apple Health, and iCloud. Your use of those services is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Legal basis and your rights
The developer does not collect or process your personal data, so there is no controller-held data to which access, correction, portability, or erasure rights would apply. If you are in the UK, EU, or a US state with comparable privacy law and you believe otherwise, contact the developer and the matter will be addressed.
Changes to this policy
If the app’s data practices change — for example, if a future version introduces a feature that sends data somewhere — this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the “last updated” date above will change.
